Special Honors & Special Dedications
This Website Is Dedicated
Elroy Rice
In Memory Of
The Class Of 1958 takes this opportunity with great pride to honor ELROY RICE by dedicating this website in his memory. Elroy was a very special classmate of ours who would have graduated with our class, had he lived that long. Unfortunately his life was cut short when he passed away in the 7th Grade of our journey to graduation. This is a memory of sadness and regrets for his classmates and others as well. Therefore, The Class Of 1958, Webster High School, is proud to bestow upon ELROY RICE this very SPECIAL HONOR. We hereby dedicate this website in memory of ELROY RICE. He was loved and missed by all.
Special Memory
Of
Chester Allen, Jr.
The Class of 1958 wishes to express special memories of Chester Allen, Jr. as a classmate who was with our class up to and through our Junior year. Unfortunately he had to move with his family to Los Angeles, CA at the end of our Junior year. Chester was not able to graduate with us at Webster High School, but went on to graduate with the Class Of 1958 at Manual Arts High School, Los Angeles, CA. He enlisted in the U.S. Army shortly after graduation and was stationed in Germany. Shortly after serving his 3 year enlistment in the Army, he returned to Germany as a civilian and lived there until his death in 2010. Chester was a pleasant memory of the class and was loved by all. He was my best friend (James Sims) throughout his tenure at Webster High School.
Special Thanks
To
Mr. Wiley S. Carter
Mr. Wiley S. Carter was the 7th Grade Homeroom Teacher for some of us in the class, and for me (James Sims) in particular. He was also our Math Teacher. But above and beyond, Mr. Carter heard a new student at Webster High School sing (as did the whole school when our Principal, Mr. Hayes had him sing the school song at a school gathering in what was called CHAPEL in the gym). The push was on by Mr. Hayes to get this new student to join the high school choir, under the direction of Mrs. Dorothy Jackson Anderson. Never the less, this young man was from a very poor family and on Welfare because his daddy was physically disabled and could not work because of his health. So the daddy said NO to joining the high school choir because he could not afford to pay for the $22.00 white formal sport coat needed as part of the uniform. Mr. Carter found this out from his homeroom student and visited the student's home and got permission from the student's father to buy the uniform coat for him. I, James Sims, was that student. I'm so thankful to Mr. Carter for that wonderful deed of kindness and have not ever forgotten. Through the years when he was alive, I would ALWAYS stop by Mr. Carter's house to see him to show my appreciation whenever I visited my hometown. This SPECIAL MEMORY is personal to me. I've told this true story with pride throughout my U.S. Air Force Career and my professional Entertaining Career. If only Mr. Carter knew how much I accomplished in my lifetime because he cared enough to invest a generous $22.00 (a lot of money during those times) in the development of one 12 year old POOR KID on welfare. Special thanks to MR.WILEY S.CARTER.

WALL OF FAME DEDIATION
Dedicated In Honor Of COACH ROBERT "TONY" RHODES
The Class Of 1958 dedicates the WALL OF FAME page of our website to our class brother, COACH ROBERT "TONY" RHODES, in honor of his outstanding contributions to the LEGACY of our class and the LEGACY of WEBSTER HIGH SCHOOL. Although we, as classmates, knew that TONY would excel and make worthy contributions to society and particularly to the sports world, his accomplishments and special recognition of him reaching heights of excellence and FAME beyond our dreams and imaginations.
Immediately after COACH RHODES passed away, Huntington High School (where he last coached) informed the family of their decision to name the football field in his honor. That ceremony is scheduled to take place in January of 2022. This page will be updated with more information after that ceremony.
