                                        THE GOAT
         SENTIMENTS  CHOICE - PROCLAMATION
BY  THE CLASS OF 1958

The Class Of 1958 posthumuously proclaims MR. WILBUR LEON HAYES as the GREATEST OF ALL TIMES Principal of  WEBSTER HIGH SCHOOL.  We realize that each principal that served at the"now defunct" WEBSTER HIGH SCHOOL was an important part of the school's history
and it's magnificent legacy.  Considering different periods of time with different struggles throughout each principal's tenure, it would be a tireless effort and impossible to determine which one deserves to be the GOAT.  But
for the Class Of 1958, having spent 9 of our 12 years under the direction and supervision of this one principal,  receiving the greatest education any kid could obtain, having sometimes felt the pain of his sincerity and compulsive push for excellence of each individual, is an impeccable measure of his love for us (although sometimes perhaps misunderstood by many).  Returning our love to him is impossible for him to feel at this time.  But it's NEVER TOO LATE for the Class Of 1958 to set the record straight.  Our love for Mr. W.L. Hayes is so great that we hereby proclaim him as our sentiments choice for the GREATEST OF ALL TIMES Principal of  WEBSTER HIGH SCHOOL.

***** A PERSONAL NOTE FROM THE WEBSITE BUILDER *****
I had somewhat of a personal relationship or should I say personal recognition of him knowing me from my first start of school at Webster in 1952 when I transferred to the school at the beginning of the 7th Grade.
As a new student he had found out about my singing abilities and showed me off to the entire school in assembly in the GYM  as having such a beautiful voice when he had me sing the school song.   He then pushed to get me in the high school choir.  He was the BEGINNING of my successful entertaining career.

Eleven years after my graduation, in 1969 while stationed at Ft. Meade, MD, Mr. Hayes came to me in a DREAM..and this is what he told me..
"READ YOUR BIBLE AND READ IT WELL".  I never knew why I had that dream and I always remembered it .  But in doing research for this website project,  I learned that Mr. Hayes passed away in 1969, the year that I had the dream.  Perhaps this was around the time he passed away and this was his last words of wisdom from him to me.  My Personal THANKS TO THE GOAT, MR.W. L.  HAYES and our special relationship throughout my entire high school tenure.
